Event Description
Fall Convocation is the formal celebration that opens each new academic year at Case Western Reserve University. Usually held in late August during the first week of the fall semester, Fall Convocation features keynote remarks from the Elaine G. Hadden Distinguished Visiting Author, along with recognition of faculty receiving the highest honor—the title of Distinguished University Professor.
We are pleased to announce Daniel J. Flannery, the Semi J. and Ruth Begun Professor and director of the Begun Center for Violence Prevention Research and Education, has been named a Distinguished University Professor. This designation represents the highest honor the university will bestow on a member of its professoriate and acknowledges the significant national contributions Dr. Flannery has made in research and service. This title elevates the impactful work that is being done across the Mandel School.
Dr. Flannery joins the ranks of Mandel School emeritus professors Claudia J. Coulton, the Lillian F. Harris Professor Emerita of Urban Research and Social Change, and M.C. “Terry” Hokenstad, Jr., the Ralph S. and Dorothy P. Schmitt Professor Emeritus, who also held Distinguished University Professor titles.
