Withdrawal & Refund Schedule

Summer refund schedule (deadline) for drops/withdrawals is determined on a course-by-course basis and uses the total days attended compared to total days scheduled.  This is used to determine the deadline to drop/withdrawal for each summer session (please see Refund Deadlines tables below) to receive a sliding scale percentage refund of tuition and student fees.  For Fall and Spring, refunds using the sliding scale percentage are only granted if ALL courses are dropped so there are NO refunds for individual courses dropped after the add/drop period.

The Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences’ virtual program withdrawal and refund schedule is presented separately from the General Refund Schedule.  Please consult with the Jack, Joseph, and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences Registrar's Office for questions.

The "date of withdrawal" is used to determine if any tuition and/or fees are refunded.  The General Refund Schedule is listed in the tables below and applies to tuition and required fees.  Housing and meal plan charges have a separate refund policy.  Please consult with the Housing and Meal Plan offices.

Students receiving financial aid should be aware that if they withdraw before 10 weeks have elapse, federal aid funds shall be returned to the federal government.  Therefore, they may effectively pay more if they had attended for the full semester and received their full allocation of financial aid.  Please consult with the Financial Aid Office about how your withdrawal may impact your financial aid.

Refund Deadlines for 2020-2021

Summer refund schedule (deadline) for drops/withdrawals is determined on a course-by-course basis and uses the total days attended compared to total days scheduled.  This is used to determine the deadline to drop/withdrawal for each summer session (please see Refund Deadlines tables below) to receive a sliding scale percentage refund of tuition and student fees.

After the add/drop period for Fall and Spring semester, refunds are only granted if ALL courses are dropped (meaning student must do a term withdrawal to receive the sliding scale percentage for the Fall and Spring semesters).  There are NO refunds for individual courses dropped after the add/drop period.  Please see additional information regarding the Spring 2021 semester and the January session.  When tuition is refunded at 100%, student fees are also refunded at 100%.  If tuition is refunded at any other percentage, student fees are NOT refunded.

Fall 2020 and Spring 2021

Thank you for your patience as we've finalized the Spring 2021 term withdrawal deadlines following the Oct. 2 announcement about Spring 2021 academic calendar changes.  For questions, please contact our office or your school's Registrar.  Please see explanations on how the January session course drops/withdraws will impact tuition refund (adjustments).

  • For those students registered for the January session in a program with a per-credit hour rate, tuition will be assessed at the per-credit hour rate for the registered credit hours for the Spring semester, including the January session credit hours.
  • For those students registered for the January session in a program with a per-semester rate, tuition will be assessed at the per-semester rate for the Spring semester, including the January session credit hours.
  • After the add/drop deadline for the January and Regular sessions-
    • Tuition refund (adjustment) for the January session course(s) applies to individual course drops or withdraws.
    • Tuition refund (adjustment) for the Regular Spring Session applies if ALL Regular Spring Session courses are dropped or withdrawn.  Students may not see the tuition refund (adjustments) for the dropped or withdrawn January session course if the Regular Spring Session courses continues to met the condition for the per-semester rate (for example, undergraduate students taking 12 or more credit hours in the Regular Spring Session are assessed the per-semester rate).
    • For those students in programs with a per-semester rate taking fewer than 12 credit hours in the Regular Spring session and the January session course(s) gets the student to 12 or more credit hours, the tuition refund (adjustment) for the dropped January course will be calculated using the difference between the per-semester rate and tuition for the remaining registered courses.  This would apply if the student does not add enough credits to the Regular Spring session to be back at per-semester rate.  Please contact Student Financial Services at studentaccounts@case.edu as it relates to your specific account.
  • Please note that if a student has financial aid, a reduction to tuition charges will result in an adjustment to the student's financial aid. Questions concerning financial aid for students taking fewer than 12 credit hours in the regular spring semester who withdraw from a January class should be addressed to the Office of University Financial Aid at 216/368-4530 or financialaid@case.edu
