Are you looking to get involved in the Cleveland community and learn about local organizations that align with your passions? Registration is now open for the Center for Civic Engagement and Learning’s (CCEL) Serves program, which provides daily service opportunities and transportation to undergraduate and graduate students interested in volunteering at area nonprofits alongside a small group of peers.
CCEL Serves works with sites with either a flexible commitment where volunteers can sign up once or as often as their schedules allow, and sites that require a weekly commitment for one semester.
CCEL Serves features service opportunities such as tutoring youth or adults; sorting books, medical supplies, or donated food; serving a hot meal; and more. Spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so early registration is encouraged.
Semester Serves options include:
- Mondays, from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m.: Tutor K-8 students at Cleveland Heights Public Library - Lee Road Branch
- Tuesdays, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.: Assist adults with academic material as they work to complete their GED through Seeds of Literacy.
- Wednesday, from 2:30 to 5:15 p.m.: Guide students in first through fourth grades in after school activities including wellness, literacy, creative writing and STEM through the AdvantageCLE Tennis and Education program
- Wednesdays, from 3:40 to 5:15 p.m.: Work with McGregor Home residents with dementia and help them express their creativity by completing art projects.
- Thursdays, from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.: Mentor and spend lunch and recess with third through fifth grade youth at Bolton Elementary School located in the Fairfax Neighborhood.
- Fridays, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.: Assist students with homework and academic learning at William Rainey Harper School.
- Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Tutor and prepare high school students to take the ACT test through Minds Matter ACT Prep Tutoring.
