I focus on cancers in adolescent and young adult (AYA) oncology including disparities that exist based on access to specialized care. Clinically I treat leukemias so I tend to focus my research on blood cancers but also look at AYAs with solid tumors. AYAs tend to have higher psychosocial needs and are in a developmental stage of life which often makes traveling long distances or participating in clinical trials more difficult. For these reasons, specific barriers to accessing these therapies disproportionally impact the AYA population leading to inferior care and worse outcomes.
