Effective March 19, 2020

University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center (UHCMC) and Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) are closely monitoring COVID-19 pandemic developments at the local and national levels. The safety of patients, caregivers, faculty, and staff is of primary concern. Operations have been significantly affected by emergency measures taken by our closely allied institutions. The situation is rapidly evolving and may necessitate immediate change in operations at any moment.

The Tissue Resources Core (TRC) activities are closely integrated with patient care and clinical operations. UHCMC and CWRU are working to minimize non-essential activities at all levels, reduce opportunities for spread of the virus, and maximize available resources for patient care. Institutional/governmental directives are affecting the TRC, particularly our tissue procurement service, by restricting interactions with pathology operations and rescheduling of non-critical procedures. However, as a result of our participation in the critical research operations of UHCMC and CWRU, THE TRC WILL CONTINUE TO OFFER ALL CORE FACILITY SERVICES FOR CURRENTLY APPROVED/ONGOING STUDIES ONLY, albeit in a reduced capacity, unless otherwise mandated by institutional and/or government regulations.

We understand that the reduction in our operation may cause disruptions in the continuity of your research, but we ask for your patience and understanding during these unprecedented times. We will continue to monitor and respond to this very dynamic situation as it develops.

Tissue Resources

The Tissue Resources Shared Resource (SR) is a specialized unit of the Human Tissue Procurement Facility (HTPF) that supports Cancer Center member researchers by acquiring, preserving, and distributing high-quality human tissues and providing priority histology, immunohistochemistry, tissue microarray and in situ hybridization services for both human and animal tissues. Services are open to all Cancer Center members on an equal basis.

Samples are for research purposes only and may not be used for clinical diagnosis or implantation into humans. Clinical information relating to the samples and donors are collected and maintained in a secure database. Samples and data are de-identified or de-linked before release to the researcher unless he/she has specific IRB approval to gain access to this information.

Please note: Researchers must complete a formal application and have an IRB approval or exemption for the study to access human tissue from the SR.
