Seth J. Corey, MD, MPH

Dr. Seth Corey is a physician-scientist who has an active research program that focuses on why monogenic blood disorders frequently transform to myeloid malignancies (myeloid leukemia or myelodysplastic syndromes). 
His lab has generated by CRISPR genome editing unique zebrafish models for Shwachman-Diamond syndrome (neutropenia, pancreatic insufficiency, and skeletal defects) and Barth syndrome (neutropenia with cardiomyopathy). His lab also uses budding yeast and patient-derived iPSCs and lymphoblastoid cell lines to identify TP53-dependent and independent intracellular stress pathways involving the ribosome and translational control. The Corey lab has also made  transgenic zebrafish that express the human EWSR1::FLI1 oncogene and develop Ewing sarcoma-like tumors. Seth has assembled a Center of Excellence in Ewing sarcoma at the Cleveland Clinic that involves other investigators who study drug resistance, new drug development, cytoskeletal control of invasion and metastases, and organoid models. Seth has been fortunate to mentor a number of young people who now hold academic appointments at Harvard Medical School, Baylor College of Medicine, Fred C. Hutchinson Cancer Center,  Univ of Rochester,  Univ of Virginia, Univ of Tokyo School of Medicine, and Univ of Southern California.
