Sydney Evans, MSW, C-CHW, Program Manager/Community Navigator for the Cleveland African American Prostate Cancer Project (CAAPP)—one of Case CCC's community outreach and engagement initiatives—was sworn in as a Commissioner for the Cleveland Commission on Black Women and Girls (CCBWG) on March 25, 2026.
In her work with CAAPP, Evans, a third-year PhD student at Case Western Reserve University's Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, helps connect community members to critical health resources, supports navigation of care, and promotes engagement to address health disparities.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Evans said the appointment is a meaningful opportunity to give back to her hometown. The Commission advises the Mayor and City Council on policies affecting Black women and girls in areas including health, education, economic opportunity, and justice.
As the college student representative, Evans looks forward to contributing research expertise, closing healthcare gaps, and collaborating with fellow commissioners and community partners to drive meaningful change across the city.
