Receive Funding Support to Advance Your Nursing Education

After July 1, 2017, funding from the NFLP for NEW students will only be available to doctoral students (DNP or PhD).

[Those currently enrolled in our MSN program who are NFLP recipients, will continue to receive the funding.]

Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing has made graduate nursing education more affordable by obtaining funding for the Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP), which covers tuition and other costs for up to five years (approximately $35,500 per year)—up to 85 percent of which is forgiven. The NFLP was created in 2004 by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

Eligible Recipients: Part-time and full-time DNP, and PhD students from the United States

Funding Time Limit: up to 5 years

Requirements (for NFLP Recipients Who Began Receiving Funds Prior to Fall 2017)

• Complete 3 education courses:
  • curriculum and instruction
  • testing and evaluation
  • teaching practicum
• Serve 4 consecutive years as full-time nursing faculty at an accredited U.S. institution following graduation
  • Full time employment is defined as: 1) employment as a full time faculty member in an accredited school / college of nursing; or 2) employment as a part time faculty member at an accredited school / college of nursing in combination with a second position that together equate to full time employment. The second position may be: 1) a part time faculty position at another accredited school / college of nursing; or 2) a part time clinical preceptor / clinical educator position affiliated with an accredited school / college of nursing.

Requirements (for NFLP recipients beginning after Fall 2017)

• Serve 4 consecutive years as full-time nursing faculty or the equivalent at an accredited U.S. institution following graduation
  • Full time employment is defined as: 1) employment as a full time faculty member in an accredited school / college of nursing; or 2) employment as a part time faculty member at an accredited school / college of nursing in combination with a second position that together equate to full time employment. The second position may be: 1) a part time faculty position at another accredited school / college of nursing; or 2) a part time clinical preceptor / clinical educator position affiliated with an accredited school / college of nursing.
