Joanie Berger (she/her) is the HR Director of the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences. Joanie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Michigan. She continued her studies there to receive her MSW, MBA and Certificate in Jewish Communal Service.
Joanie’s career began in nonprofit management in Detroit and New York City. She then worked for many years as an HR executive for Accenture in New York City, Baltimore and the Washington, DC area. After moving back to her hometown of Cleveland, Joanie joined the HR team at The Centers focusing on staff development, performance management and onboarding.
Joanie and her spouse have two children — a young professional in Washington, DC and a high school student. Joanie spends her spare time cooking vegetarian food, hiking, and volunteering in the areas of food insecurity, literacy and school readiness.
Joanie is thrilled to be joining the MSASS team as it combines two of her favorite things — a university environment and social workers!
