Mid-semester grades are now available in the Student Information System (SIS). You can view them by selecting “Grades” from the drop-down menu in the academics section of the main student center screen.
These grades are for advisory purposes only, which means they are not part of your official academic record or transcript and do not count toward your GPA. Mid-semester grades will give you a sense of your current standing in each of your courses. If you’re pleased with your mid-semester grades, congratulate yourself on a job well done! If your mid-semester grades are not quite at the level you would like, now is the time to seek assistance and implement a plan for improvement.
Take a moment to consider a few strategies that can help:
- Attend class. Regular class attendance will help you stay on top of course content.
- Be prepared. Review course materials in advance, take notes and ask questions during or soon after class.
- Get sleep. Lack of sufficient and regular rest can have an impact on your memory, concentration and mood.
- Talk to your instructors. Attend office hours, go to supplemental instruction sessions, ask questions and get to know your professors. If you’re not happy with your performance on an exam or an assignment, talk with your professor about what happened and how you can improve.
- Study smarter, not necessarily harder. If you need help developing new study techniques, talk with your faculty advisor or four-year advisor. You can also consult academic support resources for specific suggestions.
- Make use of free services. Academic resources like tutoring, study groups with peer tutor moderators, individual consultations to discuss time-management strategies or study habits and other services are available.
- De-stress. University Health and Counseling Services offers wellness programming as well as free and confidential support to help you during stressful times.
Finally, if you are feeling overwhelmed and don’t know where to start, talk with your pre-major advisor, major advisor or four-year advisor—they are here to help and will get you connected with the support you need to succeed!
