About Grackle

GrackleDocs, or Grackle, is a collection of apps that are available for use in Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides as part of the CWRU Google Workspace. Grackle scans your work, checks it for common digital accessibility issues, and helps you remedy problems to help improve your item’s accessibility.

Grackle is used by students, staff, and faculty at CWRU to find and fix common digital accessibility issues in their Google files. Instructors use Grackle as an informational tool to help improve their awareness of file accessibility and as an instructional tool to help resolve accessibility issues.

Grackle is available within Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides under the Extensions >> Add-ons menu. You'll need to find and install Grackle before you'll be able to use it. For full instructions on how to get started and use Grackle, see the Using Grackle with Google Workspace guide.

Grackle should be used as an informational tool and isn't intended to force changes, so explore Grackle's feedback and use it as a learning opportunity when creating your documents.

If you do decided to tackle your documents and make them more accessible using Grackle's feedback, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed. Take your time and work on one document at a time. If you're unsure about what Grackle is asking you to resolve, you can email tltaccessibility@case.edu for assistance.
