REMEMBER AND HONOR JEFFREY MILLS, DDS (DEN ‘82)

Jeffrey Mills

The legacy of Jeffrey Mills, DDS (DEN ‘82) lives on and continues to support CWRU students. Will you join David Mills, DDS (DEN ‘79) and his wife in remembering and honoring Jeffrey Mills?

Jeffrey Mills, DDS, was a member of the class of 1982. Mills completed both his bachelor’s degree and DDS degree at CWRU in seven years, instead of the traditional eight. He was in the men’s glee club and sang in the church choir. He was also treasurer of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity. Dr. John McMahon, faculty member and preceptor for Mills, considered Mills to be “a quality worker and a very hard worker, conscientious, intuitive and eager to learn.” Mills met his wife when he was just 15 and married her on his 22nd birthday. They announced they were expecting their first child just two days before Mills would receive his DDS degree. Instead, his life was taken tragically in an act of gun violence only four hours before he would attend Commencement with his class. The intruder was never caught.

McMahon shared after the tragedy, “Mills would have been a credit to dentistry.” And due to the kindness and generosity of the Mills family, Jeffrey Mills is still a credit to dentistry. In 2004, David Mills, DDS (DEN ‘79), Jeffrey’s brother, and his family chose to honor and remember Jeffrey by establishing the Jeffrey A. Mills Memorial Scholarship Fund to continue his legacy and ensure that CWRU students are supported through their dental school education and into their professional careers. The scholarship has already provided assistance to many students.

Today, Dr. and Mrs. David Mills wish to add to the endowed fund to be able to support more students in Jeffrey’s name and are offering to match contributions made by others to the scholarship fund. Will you join Dr. and Mrs. David Mills with a gift in memory of Jeffrey? You can support the scholarship with a one-time gift made by check or credit card, monthly transfers from your bank, through your donor-advised fund or family foundation, with gifts of stock, or with a planned gift. If you would like to remember and honor Jeffrey Mills in this manner, please contact Carolyn Gordon, at 216 368 3481 or carolyn.gordon@case.edu.
