Dr. Amit Chattopadhyay is board certified by the American National Board of Public Health Examiners and the American Board of Dental Public Health. He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health of the Royal College of Physicians, London, UK. He holds several academic qualifications in the disciplines of public health, management, ethics, philosophy, international development, public health outcomes, pain control, dentistry, oral pathology and medico legal systems from several institutions across many countries.
His expertise and research interests are wide spread in areas such as evidence-based medicine, epidemiology, biostatistics, data analysis, mathematical modeling, graphical modeling, public health, bioethics, systems science, medico-legal systems, program planning-evaluation and hospital & healthcare management and critical care medicine. His interests related to (oral) pathology-medicine include connective tissue disorders and immunological disorders; pre-cancer-cancer; mucosal pathology & immunology; craniofacial pain; rare diseases; chronic diseases and disease modeling. Furthermore, another area of focus for his studies and research is philosophy and bioethics.
Widely published, Dr. Chattopadhyay is the sole author of the book Oral Health Epidemiology: Principles and Practice. In the past, he was the Editor in Chief of Journal of Theory and Practice of Dental Public Health and the Journal of Dental, Oral and Craniofacial Epidemiology. Currently, he is the Honorary Editor-in-Chief of Quintessence India; an Associate Editor of the Indian Journal of Pediatric Dermatology and serves on the Editorial Board of Ethics in Biology, Engineering and Medicine: An International Journal. He has served and currently serves on several national and international scientific expert panels and journal editorial committees/ boards.
Dr. Chattopadhyay has taught in clinics, labs, field settings and didactic settings (class rooms and online) in the disciplines of epidemiology, biostatistics, public health biology, bioethics, research methods, evidence-based medicine, dental public health, oral medicine, oral pathology, prosthodontics, oral anatomy and physiology in the United States of America, India and the United Arab Emirates. He is a past La Trobe - Asia Fellow (2018) at La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia; a past Co-Director of the Dental Public Health Residency Program at NIDCR, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, USA and the Director of Research at the Georgia School of Orthodontics, Atlanta, USA. Currently, Dr. Chattopadhyay is a Senior Epidemiologist (HIV/AIDS) at the Baltimore City Health Department, MD, USA; and a visiting faculty at La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia, working with the Rural Health School and the Dental School. He also serves as an Adjunct Visiting Professor of Dental Public Health, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore, India and as a consultant in Epidemiology, Public Health, Policy, Ethics, Management and Biomedical Research; and Clinical Dentistry.
