Fall New Student Orientation

All students who began during the Summer term or are starting in the Fall will be invited to the New Graduate Student Orientation online resource. Students are also invited to an in-person Welcome to Campus event on Tuesday, August 20 in the Tink to pick up student ID cards and RTA stickers or attend a virtual Graduate Studies Welcome on Friday, August 23. View the entire orientation schedule! Questions about orientation can be sent to sgsevents@case.edu.

New International Students

New international students are required to check in with the VISA Office online via Terra Dotta (rather than in person) by completing this form. Students need to complete the process of checking in before the end of Add/Drop period on Friday, September 6.

Registering for Fall 2024 Classes

Registration is still open in SIS for Fall 2024 courses. If a student signs up for their first class on or after Tuesday, August 27, a late registration fee of $25 will be charged. Students will not have access to courses on Canvas or be able to pick up RTA stickers until registration. Students won't be able to register if they have a holds in SIS; check our July student newsletter for more info on how to remove holds. Students have until the end of the Add/Drop period on Friday, September 6 to make any changes to their course schedule.

Waiver of Registration

Students who were registered for at least one credit hour during the summer semester may be eligible to waive registration for the fall semester, if they submit all final materials, including the Waiver of Registration form, to gradstudies@case.edu or Tomlinson 203 by Friday, September 6. Your student must also apply to graduate in SIS. The Waiver of Registration form does not require your signature as advisor but international students must also have it signed by International Student Services (ISS).

Teaching Assistant Training

Graduate students who will serve as teaching assistants for the first time for Fall 2024 are required to participate UCITE's TA Training including registering for UNIV 400 in SIS to take the webinar course in Canvas. International student TAs also need to email our office (selp@case.edu) to schedule a Case Spoken English Test (CSET). Training must be completed by September 30.

Useful Information

Student Medical & Fitness Plan Waivers

If students intend to waive the Student Medical Plan or waive the One-to-One Fitness plan, they must submit the requests by Friday, September 6. Students must have comparable health insurance to waive the medical plan. Regardless if students waived either plan in previous years, all students are automatically enrolled at the start of the fall semester in both plans and must again submit waivers.

Names, Pronouns, & Identity in SIS

We recognize that many CWRU students use names other than their legal names to identify themselves. In SIS, students can add a preferred name or personal pronoun or gender identity. Also beginning this year, students are encouraged to record their name pronunciation in SIS so faculty and staff can correctly address them on campus and in Canvas.

University Resources

Please be aware of University Resources you can share with your students as needed. We will highlight a few each month.
