Spring 2025 course registration is around the corner. Enrollment appointment dates are set based on expected graduation term, and you can find your appointment date in the Student Information System (SIS) on the “Classes & Enrollment” tile, as well as on the Registrar’s website.
To prepare for a successful registration, follow the steps below.
Act to remove any pre-registration holds in SIS
Prior to registration, check SIS to see if you have any holds on your account that will prevent you from registering. After logging in to SIS, you can view possible holds in the “Tasks” tile. If you see that a hold exists, click the tile to learn more. Possible holds you may see include:
- Registration advising hold: To remove this hold, meet with your major advisor. After meeting to discuss your classes, they will lift your registration advising hold. Your four-year advisor CANNOT lift your registration advising hold.
- Past due balance hold: If you haven’t already, please contact Student Financial Services to discuss arrangements to address this hold. You can also consult with a counselor in University Financial Aid to explore available options for assistance. For a full list of financial holds and how to resolve them, please visit the Student Financial Services website.
Build your schedule in advance and check for conflicts
As you are putting together your schedule, make sure to use your “Shopping Cart” to identify the courses you plan to take. You can also use Stellic, the degree-planning tool in SIS, which will help you track completed degree requirements and plan courses for future semesters. You can access Stellic by logging into SIS:
- Click the “Academics” tile
- Click the “Academic Progress” tile
- Choose “My Academic Requirements” from the menu on the left
- Select the career “Undergraduate” and then click “View”
- Stellic will open in a new tab on your internet browser
Step-by-step guides and video resources are available on the University Registrar’s Degree Planning for Students page.
Be mindful of courses that may have variable credit hours. When you attempt to register for a variable credit hour course, there is a drop down menu where you can choose the specific number of credits. It always defaults to the lowest possible value and may require your attention during registration.
Request permissions for courses, if applicable
If you are planning to register for a course that requires any kind of permission (instructor consent, closed course, prerequisites or time conflict), remember that you can submit a permission request in SIS. A permission request requires that you provide the instructor with details of your circumstances and the reason for your request.
If you have questions about course registration, holds or procedures to follow in SIS, please contact your faculty advisor or four-year advisor for assistance.
