Celebration of Philanthropy

The School of Dental Medicine Celebration of Philanthropy was held on Friday, Sept. 20, in the Ambassador Ballroom at the newly renovated Hotel Cleveland. It featured a cocktail hour at 6 p.m. with a live string trio by members of OPUS 216.

Over dinner, President Eric W. Kaler welcomed everyone and expressed his appreciation for the many donors in the room, with Karen Kaler also in attendance.

Dean Kenneth Chance confirmed that the state of the School of Dental Medicine is strong due to the many philanthropic gifts that support both technology, innovation and scholarships for students.

Associate Dean of Development & Alumni Relations Carolyn Gordon acknowledged specific gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations that support innovation, the work of specialty departments and scholarships for students.

David Mills, DDS (DEN '79), spoke about the Jeffrey A Mills Memorial Scholarship he established to honor his brother whose life was taken tragically just hours before his commencement from the CWRU School of Dental Medicine in 1982.

Giancarlo Lombardozzi, Class of 2027 and the recipient of the scholarship, spoke about the impact the scholarship has had on his journey, how the financial support allows him to focus more on his studies, clinical work and volunteer work, and that the scholarship also serves as a symbol of resilience, hope and the lasting impact of generosity.

The evening concluded with dessert and opportunities for photos.
