Mark Hans

Mark Hans, DDS, MSD, and CWRU Professor and Chair of the Orthodontics Department, delivered the 2023 John Valentine Mershon Award Lecture at the AAO 2023 Annual Session in Chicago.

The presentation, Two Score and Two Years-Lessons Learned, drew upon 42 years of clinical experience and more than 30 years of teaching experience to identify fundamental ideas and concepts that are useful for orthodontic clinicians.

This included the impact of facial growth and dental drift on orthodontic treatment results, the application of a combination of scientific reductionism and scientific synthesis to clinical decision making, the importance of avoiding unnecessary treatment, the critical role of stability as a treatment goal, the concept of anatomic compensation as related to treatment planning and finally the role of the orthodontist in a patient's life.

Juan Martin Palomo, DDS, MSD, CWRU Professor and Orthodontics Program Director, presented Using Technology for Sleep Apnea and Airway Management and Tarek El-Shebiny, DDS, MSD, Assistant Professor, spoke on Software and Artificial Intelligence to Maximize In-house 3D Printing.
