The Preceptor Group
Each Preceptor Group Practice is comprised of two Preceptor Faculty Members, a Patient Care Coordinator, and 1st through 4th year dental students. The 1st or 2nd year dental students are assigned to a 3rd and 4th year student as their student mentor. The 3rd and 4th year dental students are those who are the primary dentist for the patient.
In addition to the Preceptor faculty, the students have an opportunity to work with additional faculty on a case-by-case basis. These faculty members may come from a variety of specialty areas. Their goal is to give the student more one-on-one attention for patient care that is more complicated and requires closer supervision.
The Preceptor faculty members have a minimum of 10 years of experience in private practice or have 5 years of private practice experience in addition to having completed advanced dental training. Several of our Preceptors have specialty training in Periodontics or Prosthodontics. Most of the faculty members have an active private practice outside the School of Dental Medicine.
