This program offers intensive academic training and rigorous training in imaging interpretation, radiation physics and imaging or basic research experience. The department has four faculty members board certified in oral medicine, one board certified specialist in oral and maxillofacial radiology, one boarded oral and maxillofacial pathologist, one member with dual medical/dental training, and four members with graduate (MS or PhD) degrees in basic sciences (one with doctoral degree in pathology and oral medicine) or public health. Available collaborations include the Radiology department at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and the Cleveland VA Medical Center. The oral and maxillofacial radiology service (OMR) provides care to a variety of patients who require advanced imaging in the dentistry and cater to the needs of both intra and extramural clinicians.
The didactic program lasts for twelve months. The student will meet with the program director at the beginning of the program to review the course of study, following training competencies established by the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, with semester evaluations. Didactic work includes coursework in anatomy, research design, statistics and critical assessment of the scientific literature, two-dimensional imaging and three-dimensional imaging, oral and maxillofacial pathology journal, and case presentations. Emphasis is placed on the interpretation of advanced and basic imaging and clinical-radiologic correlation, and will prepare the graduate student for interprofessional research and practice of oral and maxillofacial radiology and residency training.

Admissions
Applicants must have received a DDS/DMD or equivalent degree and have at least one year post-doctoral experience. Previous training in oral medicine, a GPR, or a dental specialty is preferred. An application must be received with a $145.00 non-refundable application fee. All applications should include official transcripts from all colleges, universities, and dental schools attended and three professional references, including contact information. Official transcripts should include GPA and class rank. This program does not qualify candidates for examination by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology.
Application Guidelines
- Admission requires the DMD/DDS or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- Passing grades in the National Dental Board Examination(s) preferred.
- It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that all materials are submitted promptly and that the file is complete.

- An official NBDE score report
- Three Evaluation Forms from previous instructors; a Dean's letter may be counted as one of the three
- International students must also submit a letter of financial support
Additional Requirements
Applicants who have graduated from a non-English speaking dental school and for whom English is not their first language must take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language. We do accept a score reported from IELTS in lieu of a TOEFL score. In order to be admitted, the applicant must score above one of the following minimum scores:
- TOEFL Paper-Based Test: 550
- TOEFL Computer-Based Test: 213
- TOEFL Internet-Based Test: 90
- IELTS Test: 6.5
