Miller Foundation Fellowships

The Samuel H. and Maria Miller Postdoctoral Fellowship Program addresses the shortage of nurses in leadership positions by preparing the future of executive leaders in nursing and healthcare. The program targets nurses who occupy essential leadership roles in healthcare delivery and academic nursing. The goal of the program is to provide participants with leadership skills to affect positive change. Case Western Reserve alumna and faculty member Linda Q. Everett, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, FAONL leads the program. Dr. Everett brings a wealth of experience as a former Vice President, Chief Nursing Executive, and past president of the American Organization for Nursing Leadership.

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing is already a nationally ranked, innovative degree program. But with the help of funding by the Samuel H. and Maria Miller Foundation, select DNP students can take an executive leadership track designed to develop nurse leaders who aspire to the role of system chief nurse executive (CNE).

The system chief nurse executive role is primarily accountable for systemwide leadership, and is a subspecialty of nursing leadership and therefore requires its own set of skills and competencies. These abilities, knowledge and behaviors are acquired through experience and education.

This CNE track will incorporate the Core Competencies of the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) with a creative approach to achieving the highest of executive level leadership.

This executive leadership track requires an additional interview.
