CWRU Kind Campus
Make Kindness the Norm
This four week challenge helped build kindness on and off our campus!
Take good care of yourself and others during this four week "Make Challenge the Norm Challenge."
Each week, faculty, staff and students will choose to complete an activity in one of each of our KINDNESS categories:
- Be Kind to the Community/Campus
- Be Kind to Yourself
- Civic Acts of Kindness
- Be Kind Online
- Take the Extra Time to Be Extra Kind
See ideas for KINDNESS in each of these areas in the Kindness Is All Around Us website.
The Make Kindness the Norm Challenge ran from September 7 through October 4, 2020
April 2019 was Gratitude Month at CWRU
Cultivating gratitude is a powerful way to create change, strengthen relationships, and positively affect productivity and happiness at work and at school. Research has found that simple acts of gratitude can improve mental well-being, improve and expand relationships, enhance overall health, improve sleep, self-esteem and empathy, and reduce aggression. The benefits are significant for relatively simple and easy strategies.

Send a Letter of Gratitude
Use one of these templates to send a handwritten note, email or even a text! If you feel self-conscious about sending because it feels little corny, take a moment to truly consider what it would feel like to receive a letter or gratitude.
A THANK YOU TO A FRIEND
You are my truest friend. Over the years, our friendship has continued to thrive even though we are miles and states apart. You are always kind and thoughtful, remembering birthdays and anniversaries, and sending the sweetest cards to mark every holiday. And although this may seem a bit out of the blue, I just want you to know how much I love and appreciate you, and that I think of you often.
A THANK YOU TO A COWORKER
I want to take a minute to express just how much I appreciate that you were willing to take on more work when I was unexpectedly out of the office. I know that adding that task to your regular duties took quite a bit of extra time and effort on your part. It means a lot to me to have a co-worker who is so willing to take on additional work to help a team member and make sure that our department stays on track. Please know that you can count on me to do the same for you. I'm glad to have you as a co-worker and are happy that we are on the same team.
A THANK YOU TO A PARENT/PARENTAL FIGURE
Just a note of gratitude for the love and support you have given me throughout my life. Through good times and bad, you have always been there for me, guiding me on the right path.
I know that when I am struggling, I will always have you in my corner to support me.
Even more importantly, I have your strong example of how to be a hardworking and caring grown up!
My love and thanks go out to you.
A THANK YOU TO A BOSS
I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you for being my manager and mentor. You helped shape my career and professional life and showed me how to transform my mistakes into skills. Words may never truly convey how helpful your guidance and advice has been. I am forever grateful for your support!
A THANK YOU TO AN EMPLOYEE
I am writing today let you know just how much your contributions as a member of the team are valued. Your reliability and commitment to providing quality, timely work play a significant role in the success of our department, and I want to let you know just how much your efforts are appreciated. I greatly appreciate your enthusiasm and willingness to take on additional responsibilities. Your teammates have mentioned to me how helpful you have been to them over the past few months. Well done!
