In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, all rooms on campus have reduced capacities. The university has developed several new initiatives to ensure students have space available for either academic or social purposes.

Indoor Spaces
Open Use Rooms
Signage will be posted outside of most classrooms with a QR code linking to a daily room schedule. If nothing is scheduled at their desired time, students are welcome to use the space in a socially distant manner. These rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are open to multiple students at once.
Zoom Rooms
The university has designated large classrooms across campus for students who need a space to take a remote class. To view a schedule of available rooms, please visit case.edu/zoomrooms. These rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are open to multiple students at once. Headphones are required.
Seat Selections
Students interested in studying at the Kelvin Smith Library and the Judge Ben C. Green Law Library should go to their respective websites to see available seat inventories and make requests in advance.
Room Reservations
A number of rooms are now available for small, in-person gatherings following Case Western Reserve University's protocol on masks and physical distancing at all times and for all purposes. Availability is subject to state, local and university restrictions and is subject to change. Additional spaces may be available and can be found at case.edu/reservations.
Special requests will be accommodated whenever possible and with as much advance notice as possible.

Same-Day Reservations
Students now have the option to reserve some rooms on campus without approval from a venue manager. These spaces are intended for individual students or small groups to have the entire space to themselves. Students should visit case.edu/reservations and select the “Same-day Reservations” form. It allows students to make a reservation for that day only, up to two hours in length, and is automatically approved.
Outdoor Spaces
Outdoor Rooms
Students wishing to reserve an outdoor space should visit case.edu/reservations and select the “Non-academic Spaces” form, filtering the room type to “Outdoor.” A tent has been erected at East Bell Commons (Zone 1) that can also be reserved for social activities. Student organizations are required to submit an Operations Programming Plan to the Office of Student Activities & Leadership.
Informal Outdoor Gathering Spaces
Our neighborhood of University Circle has been Case Western Reserve's home since 1882, and in a time when outdoor interaction is safer and indoor spaces may be scheduled for other uses, our social and recreational lives rely even more on outdoor life. We are fortunate to have so much green space, public art, garden oases and seating alcoves on campus and in neighborhoods within walking distance of our campus boundaries.
Campus program planners who know our area well have created an informal list of outdoor spaces that students, staff and faculty might seek out. On the spreadsheet, you’ll find some spaces that are great for:
- a secluded bench to eat lunch or have a video conversation;
- a quiet path for a walk;
- an interesting place to view art or gardens;
- a maintained path for running, biking or using a wheelchair; or
- a clearing to gather a socially distanced group for a planned or spontaneous activity together.
For organized activities, you’re reminded to review the programming guidelines and consult with the Office of Student Activities and Leadership or employment supervisors to make sure your activity planning is low-risk and within university expectations.
The list will be reviewed and updated regularly. The availability of reservations may fluctuate over time, and outdoor resources and activities may be added or changed as the academic year progresses and the weather changes.
If you have updates or additions, or ideas for additional information to include, please contact Janice Gerda at jjg14@case.edu.
