Hepatitis C

What is Hepatitis C?

This disease is transmitted through infected blood or blood products and through injection drug abuse. It can also be transmitted through sexual contact. Most cases are asymptomatic, but sometimes symptoms are present. Many with hepatitis C develop a chronic infection.

There is no cure or vaccine available at this time. The best way to prevent contracting Hepatitis C is through abstinence, safe sex by using condoms, and by not injecting drugs or sharing needles. When going to get tattoos or body piercing, check to be sure that they use disposable needles. Also, do not share personal hygiene items such as razors or toothbrushes.
