Recognizing Hispanic Heritage at CWRU
Hispanic Heritage Month—which runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15—celebrates and acknowledges Hispanic and LatinX diversity, and emphasizes the importance of social and human solidarity across all communities.
Alianza Latina/Latin Alliance planned these events in coordination with the Office for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equal Opportunity, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the vice president for students affairs, the Kelvin Smith Library, the Provost’s Office, and the students’ organizations La Alianza, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, the Latina Sorority, and Latino Medical Student Association, as well as the LatinX Alumni Association.
Celebrating Hispanic Heritage at FPB
Thank you to our school of nursing community members who shared their stories about their work at FPB and what Hispanic Heritage Month means to them.

Role: School of Nursing Staff, Spanish Translator
"I chose to come to the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at CWRU. because I would like to help in any way I can, sharing my knowledge, experiences and challenges, to help student learn to provide care for individuals from diverse backgrounds. I grew up in Mexico City. At the young age of 19, I had the opportunity to embrace the world on my own without knowing any other language but my mother tongue Spanish. I left my family and home country to study abroad. Throughout the course of my life and studies, I learned a great deal about overcoming my own language barriers. I recently joined CWRU as a translator for nursing students that are learning how to support patients that have a language barrier. In my personal life, in my own family, we speak three different languages: Spanish, Hungarian and English. This gives me the challenge every day of working on a long term commitment with different languages and it also afford me the extreme value of different cultures coming together as one.
