Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training at CWRU
University Health and Counseling Services will begin offering Mental Health First Aid—an evidence-based training program this fall led by certified trainers from CWRU.
What is MHFA?
Mental Health First aid prepares participants to recognize warning signs of mental health challenges, offer compassionate initial support, and guide individuals toward appropriate campus or community resources The curriculum covers common conditions such as depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, and substance use, and emphasizes non‑judgmental listening, risk awareness, and referral steps.
Why attend MHFA?
Mental health concerns like anxiety, stress, and depression are increasingly prevalent among university students, and MHFA empowers you to be a proactive part of the solution.
With increasing demand and sometimes delayed access to professional counseling, MHFA gives community members the skills to provide immediate, effective support.
Training is delivered by CWRU‑certified MHFA instructors who bring knowledge of campus-specific resources and a deep understanding of student experiences.
By participating, you help normalize conversations around mental health and contribute to building resilience across campus.

Practical strategies to approach someone in crisis, have supportive conversations, and encourage professional help
