Welcome to this month's edition of the School of Graduate Studies newsletter to faculty advisors! Below you will find information on upcoming deadlines, academic policies, news, and more. Past newsletters will be archived on our website for you to review any time you wish.

Important Upcoming Dates

Please make sure you and your students are aware of these important dates and deadlines. Some may require your review, approval, and signature.

  • Jul 4: Independence Day Holiday
  • Jul 7: Deadline to Submit All Materials for Graduation
  • Aug 1: Last Day of Summer Classes
  • Aug 3: Final Grades Due to Registrar (12:00pm EDT)

Academic Policy Briefs

Submitting Summer Graduation Materials

For students who have applied to graduate for Summer 2023, all final materials must be submitted to Grad Studies by 5:00pm EDT on Friday, July 7. Submission of materials includes the completed format check and the uploading of the approved thesis or dissertation to OhioLINK. Students should communicate with their advisors and committee to make sure all approvals are completed. All forms can be downloaded and electronically signed to be emailed to or returned to our office in Tomlinson 203.

Updates to International Student Services

To serve international students, scholars, and staff with visa-related issues, International Student Services and Immigration and Human Resources Services are combining to become the office of Visa and Immigration Services and Advisors (VISA), located in Crawford 215. Please email questions to

Fall New Student Orientation

New Graduate Student Orientation, a self-guided, online resource to prepare grad students for their time at CWRU, will be open in the coming weeks. In the meantime, new students should visit the "First Steps" Information on our website to set up email, find off-campus housing, learn about community resources, and more. Student also need to complete items on the New Student Checklist including uploading a photo by Monday, August 1 for their student ID card. An in-person Welcome to Campus event will be held on Tuesday, August 22. Any questions about Orientation can be sent to

KSL Course Requests

To have material ready by the first day of class, please make all course reserve book requests to Kelvin Smith Library by Monday, August 14.
