AI Prompt Engineering Certificate

Certificate Program Overview

Start driving measurable efficiency in your current role with generative AI prompt skills.

This isn't theory—it's a hands-on, three-level program designed to transform you into an effective AI power user. You'll advance your knowledge in the language of AI to move from simple conversations to gaining precise, powerful control over its output..

  • Level 1 | AI Prompt Engineering 101: Foundational Skills
Establishes foundational literacy, safe-use guidelines, and hands-on practice with our internal AI Chatbot.
  • Level 2 | AI Prompt Engineering 201: Intermediate Application
Moves participants from simple conversations to deliberate instructions, focusing on techniques for gaining precise control over AI output.
  • Level 3 | AI Prompt Engineering 301: Advanced Strategy
Focuses on expert-level control, advanced frameworks, and core system concepts like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
  • AI Prompt Project | Capstone in AI Prompt Engineering for Work Improvement
Participants will highlight their ability to practically apply the AI techniques learned in the three levels within their current role by preparing and submitting a 3-5 minute AI Prompt Project to be included in a Capstone session, and completing a final learning survey.

Requirements

At-a-Glance

Within the current academic year, this program requires participants to actively engage in a three-level training program and self-record a final 3-5 minute AI Prompt Project that identifies a task or project within their current role to streamline or improve with skills learned through the training workshops and on-the-job experimentation. To receive credit:

  • No more than 10 minutes of a training session may be missed
  • Take part in all the training engagement activities
  • Participate with your camera on

We promise that preparing and submitting the project can be easy - once you take the AI training with us.

  1. Complete all requirements within the current 2025-2026 Academic Year.
  2. Complete the Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 training workshops (highly suggested to complete sequentially). Participate fully and remain present in each session. To receive credit:
    • No more than 10 minutes of a training session may be missed
    • Take part in all the training engagement activities
    • Participate with your camera on
  3. Then, after completing Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3, create and submit a 3-5 minute self-recorded AI Prompt Project presentation (using our Google Slides template) that will be viewed alongside other participants in the Capstone in AI Prompt Engineering session of your choice.
    • How to prepare for and self-record the AI Prompt Project?
      • Step 1: Prepare
        • Identify. Through experimentation, identify a specific, recurring task or project in their current role that may be streamlined or enhanced using the AI techniques learned.
        • Practice & Document. Practice making outputs better and take notes. Document their experimentation with using AI techniques on the task or project.
        • Measure & Apply. Through very simple means (or dynamic methods if desired), measure the impact and outcome (e.g., time spent doing the work before and after proficient use of AI prompting). Include any personal notes or assumptions that may have been impacted as a result of the work. Create a workflow plan of action they can use consistently (e.g., saving specific prompts for later use, selecting data-sets, updating workflow procedures).
      • Step 2: Presentation Self-Recording Submission & AI Capstone Session Attendance
        • Design & Record. First, download the required AI Prompt Project Presentation Template (coming soon!). Then, starting with any notes and documentation collected during the practices and documenting, create a visual presentation using the provided template. Prompt texts, screenshots, and before/after examples and/or other creative demonstrations are all welcome.
          • Required: Download our convenient AI Prompt Project Demo Template (coming soon!)
        • Self-Record. Using Zoom (or another preferred high-quality recording application), self-record a 3-5 minute (maximum) presentation of your project.
          • Resource: How to Record Presentations via Zoom (coming soon!)
        • Submit CampusGroups Form (with video file Google "Share" Link. Shortly after completing 101, 201, and 301, you will receive an email from CampusGroups with access to the AI Prompt Project Presentation Recording Form. Read the form for complete details, including how to upload & share your video via CWRU Google Drive (for us to download/save your recording):
          • Upload the final self-recorded file to your CWRU Google Drive. Once uploaded, click "Share" on the file to copy/paste the Google File "Share" Link to submit via CampusGroups.(You are only able to submit video file Zoom Share Links if your specific video file Share Settings are set to "Viewer Can Download. For this reason, it is recommended you submit a Google File "Share" Link.)
        • AI Capstone Session Attendance & Survey
          • Watch & Learn. After submission (and approval) of your self-recorded video presentation, you will receive a CampusGroup email notification with access to register for the Capstone in AI Prompting Engineering session of your choice. Alongside a small group of other AI Prompt Engineering participants, watch and learn from each other's recorded presentations. Finally, submit a final learning survey to complete the AI Prompt Engineering Certificate Program - to earn your AI Prompt Badge & Certificate of Completion.

Enrollment in the program is automatic upon completion of any Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 AI Prompt Engineering session. We recommend completing the sessions in order of level. Visit Employee Training Workshops to view our live training schedule and register to attend.

Participation is tracked via a CampusGroups Checklist designed specifically for the program, and will be applied to your CampusGroups account within 5 business days of enrollment in the program. To view your checklist status, visit CampusGroups, click My Activity, and select My Checklists.

To submit your self-record AI Promot Project presentation and attend the Castone session, participants must first have completed all three live - Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 - AI Prompt Engineering sessions.

Completion of the certificate program requires participants to self-record and submit a 3-5 minute AI Prompt Project Presentation that will be viewed (alongside a small group of other participants) in a final Capstone in AI Prompt Engineering session, and complete a final learning survey. The AI Prompt Engineering Badge & Certificate will be distributed digitally via email within 30 days of meeting all program requirements.
