• A maximum of six credits can be waived or transferred into the DNP program. The second course in one elective sequence must be taken at CWRU (i.e. requests to waive/transfer NUND 607 and 609 will not be accepted).
• Transfer of credit means a doctoral-level course or courses taken at another institution is/are determined to be comparable to a DNP course. The prior course is then “transferred in” to CWRU and listed at the start of the student’s CWRU transcript. See further requirements below.
• Waiver of a course means the student has submitted sufficient rationale in writing to demonstrate they have met the objectives of the specified course. See further requirements below.
How to Request Transfer of Credits
1. Requirements:
- The student must have received a grade of B or above in the prior course/courses.
- The course must have been doctoral level and completed in the last five years at an accredited university or college.
- A transcript reflecting the course grade must be in the student’s file
- If the student wishes to take a course prospectively:
- Approval for the course should be obtained before the course is taken.
- The student will request that a transcript be sent to the FPB registrar’s office once the course is completed.
2. Procedure:
- The student will discuss with their advisor whether the prior course/es appear to align with the DNP course. Final determination rests with the DNP Program Director.
- The student completes the DNP Transfer of Credit Form
- More than one prior course may be submitted for one DNP course.
- The request for transfer of credit must be submitted at least two weeks before the first day of class.
- Include a syllabus for each prior course that includes course description, course objectives and a detailed content outline.
- Submit the request form and syllabus to the DNP program assistant @ dnpasst@case.edu
- The Program Director has final approval of the request for transfer of credit pending verification the course was doctoral level and taken in the past 5 years with a grade of B or higher. The student will be notified of the decision.
- The form will be sent to the Registrar. If the request was approved, the Registrar will verify via the transcript that all requirements have been met (see above and #1). If so, the Registrar will post the transferred course to the student’s record in the Student Information System, and place the documents in the student’s file.
How to Request Waiver of a Course
1. Requirements
- The student will provide, in writing, rationale that they have met each objective of a specific DNP course through prior experiences.
- Supporting documents may be provided. For example, the syllabus for a course the student taught on the topic of the DNP course.
2. Procedure:
- The student will discuss with their advisor whether the prior experiences appear to align with the DNP course. Final determination rests with the DNP Program Director.
- The student submits the DNP Course Waiver Request Form and supporting rationale to the DNP Program Assistant dnpasst@case.edu
- The request for waiver of a course must be submitted at least two weeks before the first day of class.
- The Program Director has final approval of the request for waiver of a course. The student will be notified of the decision.
- The form will be sent to the Registrar who will maintain the documents in the student’s file for reference when determining which program course requirements have been met.
