W. John Durfee, DVM, DACLAM, is a 1989 graduate of Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. Durfee completed residency training in laboratory animal medicine at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 1992. In 1993, he joined the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine as Clinical Veterinarian and received his board certification  from the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine. He subsequently served as the Head of Veterinary Resources and Assistant Director at Baylor College of Medicine.

In 2000, he joined the faculty at Case Western Reserve University as the Director of Veterinary Research Resources. His continuing education includes attendance at regional, national and international laboratory animal conferences. 

Durfee is licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Ohio and is a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) accredited veterinarian.  He is also the attending veterinarian for the university and oversees a staff of 60 employees to provide husbandry and veterinary care to all research animals.
