At the core of all research, regardless of field and scope, is data management. The importance of planning for and following best practices of data management cannot be overstated—particularly in light of complex, recently revised federal requirements. Many researchers, even those with decades of experience, are often unaware of responsible data management practices, only realizing there is a problem when their data are already in jeopardy. As collecting, storing, and sharing data are critical to the University's research endeavor, Case Western Reserve university has developed a new resource to guide you through responsibly managing and sharing your data.

CWRU’s comprehensive website outlines critical data management components that should be woven into the fabric of every stage of your project’s life cycle. For instance, you can find resources related to gathering, measuring and analyzing your data, as well as learn how to responsibly store, preserve, and share data during and after the project’s completion.
It is never too early (or late!) to plan for responsibly managing your data. All CWRU students, faculty and staff involved in research should learn about the many critical decisions investigators make before a project even begins. CWRU’s new website will help you navigate funders’ potential regulations, such as the National Institutes of Health’s new Data Management and Sharing Policy that requires complex data management plans for all projects that will generate scientific data.
