March 30 Message to Faculty/Staff: Temporary Policy for Employees Who Must Work On Campus

To Our Faculty and Staff:

Two weeks ago, we communicated with you regarding individual responsibilities and university policies during the course of this public health crisis. Since that time, our region and state have seen dramatic growth in confirmed COVID-19 cases, with accompanying increases in the stress and strain so many of us feel.

Through it all, members of our community whose duties require them to be on campus continue to arrive every day, ready to assist however they can. They care for our students, support critical research, clean, repair and maintain facilities, and so much more. Their service inspires every day, and especially in this trying time.

To demonstrate its appreciation for these individuals, the university is adding to its earlier initiatives for designated essential employees who must come to campus to complete their work. This new temporary policy takes effect this Wednesday, April 1, and continues through the end of May. Its provisions include:

  • an additional $200 per month pay for full-time employees (exempt or non-exempt) required to work on campus whose annual compensation is under $50,000;
  • financial credits in individual paychecks totaling to two months of their health insurance premiums for full-time non-exempt employees; and
  • financial credits in individual paychecks totaling to two months of their health insurance premiums for full-time exempt employees earning less than $50,000 per year.

Additional details regarding the implementation of the policy can be found in a PDF on the Office of Human Resources website.

No matter where you are working right now, we appreciate all that you do for Case Western Reserve. More, we very much look forward to the day when we can welcome everyone back to campus—faculty, staff and students.

With best wishes for everyone’s continued health,

Carolyn Gregory
Vice President for Human Resources
