Case CCC bid a fond farewell to the 2025 Cancer-focused Summer Undergraduate Research (CanSUR) program students on Tuesday, July 29, as they concluded 10 weeks of hands-on cancer research experiences by presenting their work at an end-of-summer symposium. Each summer, the selective program supports 40 undergraduates while they work in labs with cancer center researchers and participate in career enrichment activities. This year, more than 650 applicants vied for the 40 slots.
Research presented at this year's symposium included investigating T Cell associations with the cervicovaginal environment, exploring integrin subunit alpha V's role in signet ring cell carcinoma progression, and a study of how social determinants of health affect mammography uptake.
Special thanks to Gena Richmann, MEd. Each year, she organizes all aspects of the program—from recruiting to advocating for students once they are on campus. Her involvement is a key ingredient in the secret sauce that makes CanSUR a tremendous success.
Congratulations also to Mark Jackson, PhD, Damian Junk, PhD, and Ruth Keri, PhD, for making this program possible, as well as to the Case CCC members who opened their lab doors to these incredible undergraduate students, mentoring the next generation of cancer researchers.
