Jada Houston joined the Tobacco, Obesity, and Oncology Lab (TOOL) as a research assistant in February 2019. Jada leads TOOL's largest grant ProjectFREE, a three-arm randomized clinical trial conducted in connection with the North Carolina Quitline. ProjectFREE proposes to test the efficacy of a culturally-specific intervention for African American smokers who suffer disproportionately from tobacco-related illnesses. She also provides support for TOOL by canvassing to bolster community engagement, maintaining participant retention, and other administrative tasks.

Jada received a BS in Public Health from Rutgers University and has goals of pursuing research in health disparities and underserved communities. Some of Jada’s personal interests include gardening, singing and traveling.
