Vempati is a radiation oncologist and a neuroscientist. As a graduate student, he spent significant time in basic science labs trying to understand the mechanisms involved in neuronal signaling and cell death, specifically the changes in metabolism and blood flow that can alter the disease trajectory in neurodegenerative diseases. Vempati became interested in radiation oncology and worked on multiple clinical research projects in medical school and residency. He is currently the CNS Section Leader in the Department of Radiation Oncology at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. He also serves as the Co-Director of the brain tumor program at Seidman Cancer Center and Director of Radiosurgery at University Hospitals.
