My early work addressed clinical outcomes research in the discipline of surgery and subsequently focused on the specific clinical outcomes in breast cancer management. During the last 10 years, I have focused on translational work, particularly in the field of cryoablation of breast cancers; I have developed a successful BALB-C 4T1 mouse model for the study of tumor microenvironment response to cryoablation and how it leads to abscopal effect. We have used TIL counts, RNA sequencing, and flowcytometry to evaluate the immune response to cryoablation. I have recently published our work on immune response to cryoablation and am now studying the role of immune checkpoint inhibitors in the setting of cryoablation. As the director of the UMC Cancer Center, I worked closely with the Clinical Research Institute to foster investigator-initiated studies to enhance translational work in cancer. In my current role as the executive director of MetroHealth Cancer Institute, I have access to high quality core facilities and infrastructure.
