Suneel Kamath is a gastrointestinal medical oncologist with a focus on upper GI and hepatobiliary cancers. He is the Cleveland Clinic site principal investigator for a number of phase 1b-3 clinical trials, particularly in gastroesophageal, biliary, and pancreatic cancers. Additionally, he focuses on early-onset gastrointestinal malignancies, which are rising in incidence in the United States. As a member of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Young-Onset Colorectal Cancer, Kamath leads a translational research project studying metabolomic differences between young-onset and average-onset colorectal cancer, which is expanding to include the microbiome and metagenomics. He has also published work revealing significant NCI funding disparities across different tumor types leading to underfunding for GI cancers and others with high mortality rates and was invited to the White House to advocate for more equitable federal cancer research funding in April 2024.
