    Medical Student Education

Mandel Wellness and Preventative Care Pathway

As part of its education for medical students, the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine has created a series of "pathways" (or concentrations) to better develop well-rounded medical professionals who will graduate equipped to treat patients more effectively. Students are also introduced to other aspects of integrative medicine as part of the standard curriculum. During the Foundations of Clinical Medicine educational block for medical students, topics include integrative medicine, mindfulness, self-care, and spirituality. The introduction to integrative medicine is provided by Case Center for Integrative Oncology director Richard T. Lee, MD. As part of this lecture, students are provided an experiential session with acupuncture and music therapy.

Medical students may also obtain further exposure to integrative topics through different electives that are available. The Gathering Place, a local cancer community resource, hosts a four-week elective course for first and second-year medical students that is sponsored by Richard T. Lee, MD. Through this course, students are introduced to nutrition, exercise, and integrative therapies including meditation.

Community Partnership Elective Course at The Gathering Place

The Case Center for Integrative Oncology is partnering with The Gathering Place, a local cancer community resource, to host an elective once a year for first and second year medical students.
