The Summer Language and Law Institute is a three-week intensive training experience for international students at Case Western Reserve University.
Offered exclusively on campus, the institute:
- Introduces you to the practice and study of law in the U.S.
- Provides you with a practical introduction to U.S. legal research and analysis
- Improves your English language skills through an integrated English for Legal Purposes program
Our Curriculum
Participating in legal discourse requires skills in reading, analysis, research and writing—and the Summer Language and Law Institute helps you build them.
As a participant, you’ll:
- Broaden and polish your English communication skills while gaining an introduction to American common law practice
- Practice conversation and comprehension skills and become familiar with American classroom dynamics, including the Socratic method
- Get a head start in undertaking our LLM or JD degrees
At the end of the three-week program, you will receive a certificate of completion and a grade of credit (CR) or no credit (No Credit) on your Case Western Reserve University transcript.
An On-Campus Experience
Enrollment is open to international students who will enroll in the LLM or JD degree programs at Case Western Reserve University School of Law starting in the fall semester. In some cases, completion of the institute is a requirement for enrollment in our International LLM program.
