LLM in U.S. & Global Legal Studies

The LLM in U.S. & Global Legal Studies at Case Western Reserve University School of Law is ideal if you’re interested in U.S. and international law and hope to improve your legal research, writing and analytical skills. This is the best degree to prepare for a U.S. bar exam, and you can take advantage of bar exam support provided through the School of Law.

Requirements for the LLM in U.S. & Global Legal Studies 

To complete this degree track, you must earn 24 credits: 8 credits of required first semester courses and another 16 credits of electives. Elective courses can include a wide array of the JD and LLM classes offered at the School of Law. 

Required first semester courses are: 

  • U.S. Contract Law for LLM (3 credits)
  • Foreign Graduate Seminar (2 credits)
  • U.S. Legal Research, Writing and Analysis (3 credits) 

Optional Curriculum

As a student in the LLM in U.S. & Global Legal Studies program, you also have the option to focus your studies and earn a certificate in a specialized subject area. To earn a concentration, you must complete 10 credit hours of classes approved by the Office of Global Legal Studies. 

You can pursue a concentration in any subject area you choose. Examples include:
