The historic Hotel Cleveland opened on December 16, 1918, with 1,000 rooms. It was soon acquired by the Van Sweringen brothers as a part of their Cleveland Union Terminal complex, which transformed Public Square and created what remains to this day Cleveland's most iconic landmark. Among notables who stayed at the hotel, Charles Lindbergh spoke in the ballroom three months after his flight across the Atlantic and the Beatles stayed here before their 1964 performance at Public Auditorium, with other guests including President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Martin Luther King, Jr. With many names over the last century, in 2024 it returned to its original one after a $90 million dollar renovation.
