Beginning in March of 2002, Jeff’s dedication to supporting the Office of Research and Technology Management at Case Western Reserve University has been unwavering. Jeff spearheads efforts to get research administration data into the cloud to meet increasing demand for grant data reporting. Additionally, Jeff is an integral part of the back-office team of technical support staff who work with and support research administration systems across campus and affiliate institutions. These systems include SpartaGrants and Agreements, SpartaCOI, SpartaIRB and iRIS. Jeff also supports legacy systems, many of which he either authored or co-authored, including Spiderweb, Proposal and Award Database System (PADS), OSPARS, and several other smaller applications.
Initially Jeff’s role was to help the Office of Research Administration to convert older paper processes, such as proposal submission and grants reporting, from paper to electronic. This effort spurred the development of the OSPARS and Spiderweb applications which accomplished those goals. His role evolved in research administration as he took on development projects for effort reporting, CREC, invoicing, a training calendar, newsletter subscription management, Research ShowCase event registration management and core facilities management—all while building and maintaining integrations with other campus systems.
Jeff’s academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree from the College of Wooster and an MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management. Additionally, his technical education can be credited to Lakeland Community College, which provided in-depth learning in programming, web development, database, and dba skills, and eventually system administration.
