This series features in-depth conversations with faculty and staff from across campus—highlighting their work and research. Adrianne M. Crawford Fletcher, PhD, returned to CWRU’s Jack, Joseph, and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences July 1 as the associate dean of equity and belonging after one year of government service as the inaugural director of diversity, equity, and inclusion at the Supreme Court of Ohio. In her Supreme Court role, she served as the primary lead for creating, planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating programs related to issues such as race, ethnicity, culture, region, religious or spiritual beliefs, disability, age, gender, transgender, sexual orientation, and gender identity within the court system. In her newly minted role at CWRU’s Mandel School, Fletcher will build upon her previous role as assistant dean for diversity and inclusion by collaboratively leading socially just initiatives that encourage belonging across the Mandel School and the university. She will be responsible for teaching both core foundation social work courses, advanced practice social work courses and elective courses. Fletcher has also been appointed vice dean of diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence at CWRU School of Medicine. In this role, she will engage with the dean, department staff, vice deans and basic science chairs at the school to craft a path toward an environment of belonging and inclusive excellence, aiming to secure a more diverse faculty that can lead to improved patient care.
