Fei Wang, a doctoral student, was awarded a fellowship with the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) in the Diversity, Racial Equity, and Inclusion Program at the University of Chicago.

She is one of five scholars selected this year. NORC provides her with funding ($7,500), training and mentorship to support her research project, “Social discrimination and mental health among older African Americans: the paradox and the mechanism.”

The program began in August and will run through December. In addition to training sessions, Fei will meet with NORC mentors every week to discuss her research projects. Training sessions include “Culturally Responsive and Equitable Evaluation (CREE) Analysis Planning” and “Using Large-Scale Datasets with a Diversity, Racial Equity, and Inclusion Lens” (to mention a few).

Nancy Rolock, associate dean for research and training, and Ann Nguyen, assistant professor, played a pivotal role in Fei’s application.
