On Feb. 15, the Coleman P. Burke Center for Environmental Law hosted renowned climate law scholar Rob Verchick for a talk on his new book, The Octopus in the Parking Garage: A Call for Climate Resilience.

On Dec. 19, 2023, in an important climate change case, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit cited and quoted a law review article written by Jonathan H. Adler, the inaugural Johan Verheij Memorial Professor of Law and Director of the Coleman P. Burke Center for Environmental Law.

Every year, Case Western Reserve University School of Law hosts online and in-person events. This fall, we hosted a wide variety of lectures, panels and presentations covering a range of topics from climate change and energy justice to investment crowdfunding and crimes against humanity.

Overcoming political polarization will be necessary to enact meaningful policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the risk of climate change. This was the message the University of Colorado’s Professor Matthew Burgess presented in his lecture “Depolarizing Climate Change in the United States” on Oct. 4 at the law school.

The Honorable Shalanda H. Baker, director of the Office of Economic Impact and Diversity at the U.S. Department of Energy, joined the Coleman P. Burke Center for Environmental Law for a conversation on her work promoting and overseeing the federal government’s energy justice initiatives.
