The COVID-19 crisis has dramatically increased Zoom usage on campus, causing an unanticipated surge in Zoom-related phone charges. Toll-free and Call Out/Call Me minutes used in Zoom meetings are billed back to the University. The default settings is to not display toll-free phone numbers.
If you have not had access to a toll-free number in Zoom meetings in the past, but feel you need to include a toll-free number in some of your meetings, please contact the UTech Service Desk at 368-4357 or email@example.com to request that toll-free be added to your Zoom account. Please note, there is usually no additional charge to participants for using the toll phone numbers, as most cell phone and many landline plans have unlimited talk minutes.
Call Out/Call Me
When the “Call Out/Call Me” option is on for a Zoom account, meeting participants get an option to have Zoom call them to join the audio for a meeting. As this results in per minute phone charges for the University, this option is off by default for all CWRU Zoom accounts. Users have the option to join via computer/device audio or to call into the meeting using a provided toll number. If you feel that you require an exception due to your unique Zoom work requirements, please contact the UTech Service Desk at 368-4357 or firstname.lastname@example.org to request that Call Out/Call Me be added to your Zoom account.
