About

The Case Western Reserve University Jazz Ensembles, under the direction of Paul Ferguson, include two groups: Jazz I and Jazz II. Both follow standard big-band instrumentation and focus on developing individual improvisation skills while performing a wide range of jazz styles—from classic standards to modern repertoire, plus custom arrangements by ensemble members.

Guest artists and Cleveland-area professionals frequently join the ensembles, which perform once or twice each semester both on campus and around the city. Student jazz combos (“gig groups”) are encouraged and are often requested for special events.

Director: Mr. Paul Ferguson, Director of Jazz Studies

  • Open to all instrumentalists for both Jazz I and Jazz II.
  • Audition required for placement into Jazz I.
