Breast Cancer Alliance Exceptional Project Grants

Apply for a limited submission opportunity

Breast Cancer Alliance invites clinical doctors and research scientists at any stage of their careers whose primary focus is breast cancer to apply for an Exceptional Project Grant. This award recognizes creative, unique and innovative research and is open to applicants at institutions throughout the contiguous United States.

Researchers may not apply for both the BCA Exceptional Project Grant (this Limited Submission application) and the BCA Young Investigator Grant (separate application).

Up to two individuals from the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center may be nominated to submit a letter of intent. Applicants will be informed by mid-May 2022 whether they have been invited to proceed with a formal application. Full applications for the Exceptional Project Grant are due on or before July 22, 2022. An Independent External Review Committee reviews and evaluates the applications. Based on their results and subsequent review by the Grants Committee, recommendations will be made to the BCA Board for final approval. Applicants will be notified in mid-February 2023 of the decision regarding their proposals.

INTERNAL SELECTION PROCESS:

Investigators should submit Letter of Intent (one page, template available) and an NIH-style biosketch through this InfoReady application form by Wednesday, March 23, 2022.

Case Comprehensive Cancer Center leadership will review all applicants. The Case CCC grants and finance team will send successful LOIs to Breast Cancer Alliance on or before April 1, 2022. If invited, selected nominees will work with their department research administrators and the Case CCC to submit full applications to the sponsor before July 22, 2022.

ELIGIBILITY

Independent researchers at any stage of their careers may apply. However, researchers must have an appointment where they design and conduct their own independent research projects. For researchers at the Case CCC, this means applicants must be at least Assistant Staff (Cleveland Clinic) or tenure-track Assistant Professor (CWRU/UH).

Though the Exceptional Project Grant program is open to independent researchers at any stage of their careers, please note that there is a separate BCA opportunity specifically for young investigators, the Young Investigator Grant. You may not apply to both opportunities.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

The program will offer grants up to $100,000 total costs ($92,000 direct costs with a 8%-of-total IDC rate), to be used over one year.
