Policy Statement
Employees may go on an unpaid convenience leave when it is beneficial to the university and mutually agreed upon by the employee. A convenience leave is initiated by the department and accepted by the employee. Convenience leave provides an opportunity for the department to decrease employment levels due to a slack period of work or other reasons approved by the university, without incurring a layoff and without affecting the employee's ability to accrue time toward benefit calculations.
The maximum convenience leave time is twelve (12) weeks.
During convenience leave, employees are responsible for their contribution to the Benelect plan. The university will continue its portion of the Benelect contribution during the leave period for a maximum of twelve (12) weeks.
Employees are eligible for tuition benefits during a convenience leave.
