The Healthy Habits Challenge is an annual challenge held in March. The Healthy Habits Challenge is a month-long program that can be completed virtually, with an option for a few in-person components throughout the month. For the first week, students will be tasked with maintaining healthy hydration, which they are challenged to maintain for the entirety of the month. For each of the following weeks, there will be a new habit that students are challenged to incorporate into their daily schedule.

Students will complete a survey at the end of every week outlining their experience with the challenge. Completion of the survey is how students are entered into the raffle for a chance to win the prize for that week.

Please note: This program is open to only CWRU, CIA, CIM, and KSU School or Podiatry students only.

Please read below for information on each of the weeks and their corresponding challenges.

Hydration

Week one's focus is on hydration.

They say that drinking at least 64oz a day can help you stay properly hydrated. Proper hydration can help with:

  • Maintaining a normal temperature
  • Lubrication and cushioning of joints.
  • Protection your spinal cord and other sensitive tissues.
  • AND MORE!

This week your challenge is to try and drink at least 64 oz of water a day and see how you feel after your increased water intake. Keep track of your water intake in a weekly log to help complete your end of the week hydration log.

The prize for this week is an Owala water bottle. You must complete the end of the week survey to be entered into the raffle to win the prize. If you would like extra submissions you can attend the UH&CS Hydration Station at KSL on March 6th from 11am - 1pm.

Nutrition

For week 2 we will be focusing on nutrition.

Having a nutritious diet is important to your overall health.

Our nutrition focus will be all about getting enough fruits and vegetables throughout the day. Fruits and Vegetables hold a lot of nutrients that our bodies need. The challenge of the week is to try and get full servings of fruits and vegetables everyday while also continuing to drink enough water to stay properly hydrated. Make sure to continue tracking your water and fruit/vegetable intake, as participants will be asked to fill out a survey based on their habits for the week.

The prize for this week will be $20 Case Cash for dinning services. You must complete the end of the week survey to be entered into the raffle to win the prize. If you would like an extra submission you can attend the Healthy Food Giveaway in Thwing Atrium on March 10th from 11am - 1 pm. You can register for the Healthy Food Giveaway here.

Mental Health

For the fourth and final week of March we will focus on mental health.

Mental wellness allows us to have healthy mindsets ready for complex thinking and decision-making, which allows for clear mind and productivity.

For this final week, we invite you to incorporate selfcare into your daily schedule, along with drinking water. We encourage you to dust off some of your old hobbies you haven’t had the chance to enjoy. Or, try something completely new and discover a new activity to love! This way, you’ll find new ways to relax. Have fun with this last week, and enjoy putting your mental health first while staying hydrated.

The prize for this week is a portable neck massager. You must complete the end of the week survey to be entered into the raffle to win the prize. If you would like extra submissions you can attend the guest speak Ross Szabo's lecture on March 25th at 6pm. Registration for this event will be on campus groups and open to the whole campus community.

You must sign up for weeks 1 - 3 to participate in week 4.

You can register for week 1 by clicking here. Registering for week 1 will automatically register you for weeks 2-4.
