Packing 103: What to Bring For Apartments

In addition to items listed in Packing 101 and 102, here is a list of suggested items you should bring apartment-style housing:

  • Dishwasher detergent
  • Small appliances (must have automatic shut-off)
  • Kitchen garbage can and garbage bags
  • Towels, washcloths
  • Bath mat
  • Toiletries
  • Toilet paper
  • Plunger for toilet
  • Garbage can and bags
  • Additional storage bins/free-standing shelving units
  • The Village at 115 and STJ -- linens for an XL double beds (54"x 80")
  • 1609 Hazel - linens for a standard double bed
    • In the 2 Bedroom Apartment for 4 people (shared bedroom), bring linens for extra long twin sized beds
  • Triangle and Property Management Apartments - linens for extra long twin sized beds (36x80)
  • Broom and dust pan
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Glass cleaner, dusting spray
  • Disinfecting wipes
  • Bathroom cleaning supplies
  • Cleaning rags and sponges
  • Garbage bags for kitchen and bedroom garbage cans
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Additional lighting for bedroom or living room (compact florescent or LED recommended)
    • Triangle apartments do not have overhead lights
  • Additional furniture to complement what is provided by the university
    • Note: upholstered furniture (couches, futons, comfy chairs, etc.) must be certified flame retardant (per CAL 133 - ATSM E 1537 standards - must bring certificate with you)
  • Storage bins
  • Halogen lamps (the hot bulb poses a fire hazard)
  • Extension cords
  • Microwave - one is provided in the suites and apartments
  • Candles and incense
  • Curtains
  • Wall tapestries
  • Dogs, cats, ferrets, and animals that require a heat lamp. Only small caged animals and fish are allowed in the residence halls. A pet registration form is required along with approval from your roommate and the Residential Community Director. Registration forms can be found online on your Campus Groups account. If you require an assistance animal, please contact the Office of Disability Resources for approval
  • Illegal drugs, fireworks, firearms, or weapons of any kind
  • Space heater
  • Air conditioner
  • Alcohol (if you are under 21)
